Ja, dat wil ik ook wel eens weten. Bert heeft altijd behoorlijke primeurs, maar vermeldt nooit een bron.....! En antwoord geven op mijn vraag, in de 2e post van dit topic, geeft ie ook al niet...

'De nieuwe en niet geliefde GM V6'? Lijkt me nogal een premature uitspraak. Niemand van de pers heeft nog met deze 'Alfa' zespitter (die toch wezenlijk verschilt van het standaard GM-blok) kunnen rijden, laat staan het grote publiek. Dus hoe hij nú al 'niet geliefd' kan zijn is mij een raadsel. Bovendien: anderhalf, twee jaar om een splinternieuw (nog te ontwerpen?) motorblok productieklaar te hebben, is wel héél erg snel. Hoog 'de wens als vader van de gedachte'-gehalte, wat mij betreft.

Ik vrees dat je gelijk hebt. Het zou te mooi zijn om waar te zijn! Ik loop sinds de introductie van de tupperware V6 al na te denken bij welk ander merk ik te rade moet gaan voor een opvolger van mijn GTV..... Het zou fantasisch zijn als dat tòch weer een Alfa zou kunnen zijn

In blad staat dat binnen twee jaar! de GM V6 zal worden vervangen door de Ferrari V6
die speciaal wordt ontworpen voor een nieuwe Dino. Maserati en Ferrari krijgen ook
beschikking over deze motor en de Brera zal na Ferrari de eerste zijn die over de nieuwe
motor zal beschikken en Maserati zal volgen. Er wordt in blad opgemerkt dat dit de eerste
vruchten zijn van de nieuwe samenwerking tussen Alfa-Maserati.


In QR wordt vermeld dat Alfa Romeo de beschikking krijgt over de Maserati V8.
Nog steeds gaat het gerucht van achterwielaandrijving. Premium is geschikt voor achterwielaandrijving en ik vraag mij af of montage Maserati V8 niet beter, lees goedkoper,
in lengte-richting kan worden ingebouwd.

Tja, het AutoVisie-verhaal klopt niet met het bovenstaatnde verhaal. Zoals ik het in de AV lees wordt de ontwikkeling aan de opvolger voor de verliesgevende 4200 GT stopgezet (?!) en neemt Ferrari een deel daarvan over voor de Dino. Een link met Alfa Romeo kan ik uit dat artikel helemaal niet halen.

Ofwel: we weten het niet en wachten af. (en kopen ondertussen zo veel mogelijk nieuwe Alfa´s en Maserati´s )

Ik maak toch niet uit het verhaal op dat de Maserati 4200GT opvolger niet komt.

Het zijn natuurlijk geruchten. De feiten zijn Premium en GM motoren en ook voor Maserati in de
toekomst. Even overzicht waaruit de strategie van Alfa voor de toekomst is op te maken.
Maar niets is zo veranderlijk als strategie. Verkoopcijfers zullen bepalen of de strategie
moet worden bijgestuurd.

Montezemolo has been driving force behind the changes at Fiat. All told the merging of Maserati and Alfa seems a good idea especially for re-entry tot he US. Use of GM engines makes servicing easier and is a cheap source of V8 engines.

Fiat also announced it will buy the Maserati sports car brand from Ferrari - a company in which it already has a majority stake. The Turin-based company said the move would create technological and commercial synergies that would help it develop the Alfa Romeo brand. So expect Alfa and Maserati to have synergies and joint product developments in the future. This means that Maserati had been (3 years ago) joined up with Ferrari and is now sharing components and manufacturing facilities. It will now have to drop these and develop joint component sharing with Alfa-Romeo and joint (?) manufacturing facilities. Not necessarily a bad move.

Former Rolls-Royce boss Karl-Heinz Kalbfell is now the head of both Alfa Romeo and Maserati. Where does this leave Martin Leach (ex-Ford head of Maserati)? he was unhappy about this move and has decided to leave. How long will Kalbfell last? Not long is the current betting not least because Marchionne has decided to rely on GM V6 and V8 engines - closing its Milan/Arese engine facility.

Of the two companies Fiat has come off better not only because of the cash injection. But he purchase agreements favor Fiat rather than GM. GM is left with its Gamma platform now in the hands of Fiat. Fiat will use the Epsilon platform in its low volume Croma II large car project. Elsewhere it has used a combination of its own and best Epsilon platform practice in developing its own premium car platform. Fiat is only exposed on the Croma platform and it can easily shift this over to Premium car platform. Fiat has protected the use of the Premium platform for possible use with V8s - possibly GM built ones. GM will be very pleased to sell Fiat some V8 engines the cost of which is very low - the lowest in the industry so anything Fiat pays will be worthwhile from GM's viewpoint.

Long term will Fiat continue to produce diesel engines for GM? Probably not. But watch this space as GM retains its Turin diesel engine center. This may be a quid pro quo. GM buy diesel engines from Fiat and Fiat buys V6 and V8 engines from GM.

Alfa's new boss Karl-Heinz Kalbfell has reversed the decision to ditch the replacement 166. There will be a 169. This is likely to be a modified and face lifted 166 on that platform but with an expanded range of powertrain - but this will have a short model-cycle. The next 169 will share a common platform with Maserati Quattroporte and will be rear-wheel drive. The will be a flexible platform with a Tall wagon crossover vehicle and a SUV engineered from the start. That means Alfa-Romeo will have two SUVs one planned as the GTX/Kamal and one off the 169 replacement platform.

With 3 model ranges and two SUVs plus possible a Crossover vehicle means that Alfa-Romeo is well placed to re-enter the US market. Alfa won't return to the US until it has a viable product range to keep dealers happy and of course a set of V8 powertrain at the upper end.

Alfa-Romeo and Maserati will combine to one product design and development unit and probably one manufacturing unit. This does not mean that Alfa-Romeo will jointly develop with Maserati its own V8 as this function falls to GM. GM will continue to buy diesel engines from Fiat.



So Maserati is discussed under Alfa-Romeo above. Essentially it will form one division with Alfa-Romeo using the Alfa-Romeo platforms (not Ferrari or bespoke platforms. Production is likely to remain at Modena but a new paint plant will be added. Bodies may come from both Pomigliano and Mirafiori. The Alfa production system is integrated into that of Fiat and that is unlikely to change for the moment. Sports car production will remain at Modena we think and will remain the HQ of Maserati - particularly customer handling. R & D and product development will go and will remain in Turin with some functions undertaken at Modena.

Engines: fine tuning of and customization for Maserati. This includes special injection, cylinder heads, crankshafts, pistons and sparking plugs. V6 and V8 will be provided from GM with some customization .Transmissions will be from the standard GM/Cadillac parts bins - which should be good.
